EYES ON THE FLOOR

Dark rooms, safe spaces, queer joy. Eyes on the Floor brings together five photographers to share a window into Atlanta’s queer nightlife scene at the Fulton County Public Art Futures Lab. Through personal photo selections and video interviews, each photographer offers intimate perspectives on nightlife, their relationship with the camera, and what makes Atlanta unique.

ARTIST INTERVIEWS

Nylah Desir (she/they)

Instagram

Nylah Desir is a Haitian-born photographer currently based in Atlanta. Her work beautifully blends personal investigations and community. Deeply inspired by nostalgic home videos and family photos, Desir’s passion for documenting life’s fleeting moments drives her photography practice. As a self-taught artist, she has explored various camera techniques but ultimately embraced film photography as her primary medium, finding in its process a tactile connection to archiving memories and history.

For Desir, photography is more than a tool—it’s a love language. She is particularly known for capturing the vibrancy of queer nightlife in Atlanta, focusing on the rich diversity of identities within the community and capturing personality. Her work goes beyond aesthetics, often being commissioned to document deeply personal and gender-affirming moments, allowing her subjects to see themselves authentically and with pure joy. Through her lens, Desir not only chronicles the beauty of queer expression but also aims to strengthen and celebrate the identities she encounters, leaving an indelible mark on those who experience her work.

Lyte Hill (she/her)

Instagram

Lyte is a 23 year old black trans woman, drag performer, and photographer in Atlanta with an emphasis in the celebration of queerness in nightlife. She captures subjects in candid with a stark flash and deep contrast to the dimly lit surroundings. Lyte’s contributions to the scene have brought her to immortalize parties such as Club Morph, Sucia, Malware Cafe, and Chaka Khan Hacienda, but as well as local drag productions like Chapel Beauty Drag Show, Larrys: a King Show, and Big Black and Loved! A queer variety Show! “I feel my most connected to community when I’m at the function! It’s a celebration of ourselves and each other and what it took to get here! I think that should be remembered forever” This will be Lyte’s Second ever collection submitted to a gallery.

Maya (she/they)

Pira (they/them)

Instagram

Pira is an aspiring socialite and self-proclaimed "modelographer" who blends their passion for modeling and photography to celebrate the beauty of a night out. Driven by a love for capturing the energy and effort people invest in looking their best, Pira started taking pictures to honor the work that goes into getting ready for a party. Their unique perspective as both model and photographer allows them to beautifully showcase the depth, vibrancy, and individuality of each person they photograph.

Chaláne Bauzó (she/they)

Website / Instagram

Chaláne Bauzó is a photographer and DJ known for their compelling portrait-style photography that captures the essence of nightlife and queer expression. With a keen eye for candid moments, Bauzó's work delves into the vibrancy and complexity of club culture.

Bauzó's photography has been prominently featured in notable publications such as Trip Magazine, Sticks and Stones Agency, Remezcla, THUMP Canada, and The Isis Nicole Magazine. Their art was showcased in the Unveil’d “Ladies & Gents” exhibition in October 2014 in Bristol, UK, and again at Photo Revolt in July 2015 in Atlanta, GA. Their work reflects a deep engagement with the queer community and the pulsating energy of those that navigate nightlife on their own terms, blending these influences into a unique and evocative visual narrative.

Their dual role as a DJ further enriches their artistic perspective, bringing an additional layer of understanding to the environments as they aim to explore and document the intimate and dynamic interplay between personal identity and public spaces.
